Terrarium Logbook Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 20, 2026
Terrarium Logbook (“the app”) is a reptile keeping and breeding log provided by Xin Zhou (“we”, “us”). This policy applies to every feature of the app.
Summary
- There is no account system. You do not need to register, and we do not collect your identity.
- Your animals, feedings, weights, sheds, clutches, photos, and exports stay on your devices.
- The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
- If you enable iCloud sync, data moves only through your own private iCloud database, which we cannot access.
1. Information we collect
We do not collect, generate, or upload personal data. The app has no account, no advertising identifier, no device fingerprint, and no server-side profile.
- No registration or login information
- No usage analytics or behavioural tracking
- No crash reports or performance monitoring sent to us
- No access to your contacts, location, microphone, or health data
2. Data stored on your device
The following records are created by you and stored in the app's sandbox on your device, or in your private iCloud database when sync is enabled:
- Animal profiles: name, species, morph, sex, hatch date, microchip, breeder, notes
- Care records: feedings, refusals, weights, sheds, temperature, and humidity
- Breeding records: pairings, clutches, incubation, hatchlings, lineage
- Enclosures, tasks, and reminder settings
- Photos and thumbnails you take or select
- CSV files you choose to export
3. iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, the app can sync through CloudKit using your private iCloud database. The data is associated with your Apple Account and governed by Apple's terms. We do not operate a server and cannot read, restore, or delete your iCloud data. If you are not signed in, the app works locally and no data leaves the device.
4. Permissions
The app asks only for permissions needed by features you choose to use:
- Camera: to take a photo of an animal when you tap the camera button
- Photos: to select existing images for an animal's profile
- Notifications: to deliver feeding, incubation, and task reminders you create
5. Sharing
We do not sell or share data. There are no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. When you export a CSV or share an image, the receiving app or person is chosen by you; their handling of the file is governed by their own policies. In-app purchases are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment information.
6. Retention and deletion
Records stay on your device until you delete them. You can delete individual records, or use “Clear all data” in the Me tab to remove every animal, record, and photo. Deleting the app removes its local data. Data already synced to your private iCloud database may remain there until you delete it through the app or through Apple's iCloud settings.
7. Your choices
You can view and edit every record in the app, export your feeding, weight, and shed data as CSV, delete records at any time, and disable camera, photo, notification, or iCloud access in system settings. Disabling a permission does not affect data you have already created.
8. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. International transfers
We do not receive or store your data, so we do not transfer it across borders. If you enable iCloud, Apple processes the data under its own terms and safeguards.
10. Security
Local data is protected by the iOS app sandbox and device data protection. Exported CSV files are not encrypted; store and share them carefully. No system can guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app or on this page.
